Year of the Volunteer proposed by the Volunteer Development Agency
This has been a busy year for the Volunteer Development Agency and our partners who have worked with us on the Year of the Volunteer 2005 campaign: Volunteer Bureaux NI, Northern Bank, BBC NI and the Department for Social Development.
There have been many moments which have made this year very special, the Volunteer Fair in June, extended media coverage of volunteering, finding and sharing volunteering stories, our celebration of
the Year on 5 December...
The moment I have chosen however is the launch of our new volunteer badge.
BBC NI's Dinner Next Door presenter, Emma Rosa Dias (pictured on the right), and Wendy Osborne OBE, director of the Agency (on the left), give the simple message 'try volunteering' in the publicity shots.
The badge has become the recognised symbol for volunteers across the country. To date 35,000 have been requested by volunteer involving organisations to present to their volunteers, and by volunteers themselves.
It is a symbol of recognition for volunteers representing their vibrancy and diversity - enabling them to share their volunteering experiences and inspire others to get involved when someone asks 'what does the badge mean?'
