8 Dec: Niall Fitzduff, recent director of the Rural Community Network and winner of the 2004 Beacon Award for services to the rural community. Nominated by Neville Armstrong at Kesh Development Association.
Niall Fitzduff is a man in a million. His drive, vision and humility have done more than any government department to further the cause of rural communities in Northern Ireland.
Niall could aninmate a fledgling community group in Fermanagh in the morning, chair a policy meeting in Stormont in the afternoon and back out to Cookstown in the evening to support his beloved RCN.
Such men as Niall are rare. Such men to be revered by Nationalist and Unionist alike, are rare. His contribution to rural development in Northern Ireland over thirty years must be recognised.
