One in a MillionThe Make Poverty History campaign. Nominated by the MPH NI Coalition

The Make Poverty History campaign was one in a million. It was a unique year when the voluntary and community sector, trade unions and aid and development NGOs came together to call on world leaders to end extreme poverty by ensuring debt cancellation, more and better aid and trade justice.

The NI coalition organised a rally, wrapped the BT Tower, travelled to Edinburgh for the G8 summit, encouraged local councils to pass motions in support of the campaign, held a vigil and sent thousands of signed postcards and emails to world leaders.

Plus, there were those white wrist bands - an almost compulsory accessory that became a serious fashion statement in 2005.

The campaign succeeded in turning the spotlight on the poverty faced by millions of people in the developing world and asking world leaders to keep the promises they had made to eliminate the causes and consequences of poverty.
