Out & About is a Belfast-based group who arrange monthly walks, occasional nights out and weekend trips for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community (and their friends). We are keen to make contact with other groups who share our love of walking in our lovely countryside, and to promote good relations with as many other groups as possible.

Our next walk is during Anti-Homophobia Northern Ireland (AHNI – pronounced ANNIE). Please support it by bringing along as many of your friends as possible to this walk with no reference to their sexuality. AHNI is about reaching out to others in the wider community to make them aware of who we are, and to inform them that we lead normal lives like them. It really is about making people comfortable with us and with each other.

This is the scheduled walk on Sun 26th November at Murlough Bay between Newcastle and Dundrum starting from the 12 Arches Bridge. This is an easy, and we mean easy, walk though the sand dunes to the sea shore and continuing along the beach in the direction of the entrance to the inner Dundrum bay. We then go back into the dunes towards Murlough House and demesne owned by the Hill family of Hillsborough (the Marquesses of Downshire) as their country residence. This whole area is owned by the National Trust and conserved as a nature reserve. We will then find a sheltered spot for lunch, followed by a walk along the shore of the inner bay and back to the 12 Arches. The total distance is not more than 5 miles.

This would be a good walk for a beginner as it is on the level and does not demand any heavy footwear, though a pair of sturdy comfortable shoes is recommended and you must bring warm and waterproof clothing with you.

We expect to be finished by 3.30pm, leaving lots of time to socialise in Newcastle.

Please meet at Mynt, Dunbar Link at 11am sharp. Those wanting to meet up at the walk location should be at the 12 Arches for noon.

For further information, please contact Colin Flinn on Icon of a telephone07788748569.
