The Politics 4 Youth programme is designed to be engaging, interesting and relevant to the lives of young women across Northern Ireland.

Aims of the programme

The main aims of the programme are to:

1. Raise political awareness and understanding of decision making processes.
2. Promote politics (at all levels) as a career option for young women.
3. Highlight the relevance of politics to the lives of young women.
4. Increase the confidence of young women.

What will the women involved be expected to do?

The young women participating in the project will be involved at every stage of the design of the programmes, from deciding the topics to be covered to designing the youth section of the website.

Practical information

• The participants will incur no costs as travel and childcare will be subsidised and hospitality will be available.
• This programme is designed for groups of 8-12 young women.
• The programme offers young women the opportunity to communicate their views and ideas in a supportive learning environment.
• The learning methods used will be designed around the groups involved and take into account each group’s specific needs.
• This is a 6-8 week programme organised into 2-hour sessions - although this is flexible and can be adapted for individual groups.
• The programme allows participants to participate in political discussion.
• Programme participants will select for themselves the topics they wish to discuss.
• Each programme begins with an introductory session and ends with a programme evaluation.

The programme will also offer the possibility of work shadowing with a female politician or decision maker.
