Maybe you have an informal mentoring project but would like to formalise it? Do your volunteers presently offer support to a group of young people and you would now like to develop one-to-one support for your young people?
A mentor offers one-to-one support and guidance over a period of time to another person who they are matched with to help them set and achieve goals and realise their full potential. This training will get you to consider a rang eof areas including the purpose of the mentoring project, recruitment and selection of mentors and mentees, boundaries, training and general good volunteer management procedures required for running a successful and safe youth mentoring project.
This training is a useful starting point; raising questions and offering recommendations that you can take back to your own organisation to explore further.
It also highlights the issues of mentoring under 18s and will focus on the dynamics of involving volunteer mentors, rather than paid mentors.
