NIPAN & Save the Children are marking the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on October 17, 2006 with a confrerence exploring the potential of community planning to address poverty at a local level in Northern Ireland. Community planning is a key development emerging from the RPA and aims to engage local people in decision making about public services. Lord Rooker, commenting on community planning, made specific reference to addressing poverty.

The conference therefore aims to:

  • Bring people up to date on progress towards community planning within the RPA process.
  • Enable participants to learn from the Scottish experience of community planning.
  • Make recommendations as to how community planning might work in practice in Northern Ireland so that poverty will be effectively addressed locally.
