Alcohol or drug misuse impacts on all parts of our society including people with a learning disability, yet people working with this vulnerable group often feel poorly equipped to address the issue. The Eastern Drug and Alcohol Co-ordination Team has funded ASCERT to provide a workforce development programme around substance misuse for the learning disability sector. This training is free.

An OCN accredited two-day training programme in drugs and alcohol awareness will be happening at ASCERT in Lisburn on 20 and 21 November 2008 from 10.00am to 4.30pm.

This accredited programme gives a comprehensive understanding of drugs and their effects. The objectives of the training programme are:

  • To improve the substance misuse knowledge of people working in the learning disability sector
  • To equip people working in the learning disability sector with skills to deliver substance misuse education to their clients
