Charm Tong is a member of the Shan ethnic community in Burma who was forced into exile in Thailand. She is a front line activist and advocate for human rights and has helped to found the Shan Women’s Action Network (SWAN) and a School for Shan Youth. Charm has brought international attention to the human rights abuses experienced by the Shan at the hands of the Burmese military. At just 23 yrs old, Charm was the recipient of the 2005 Reebok Human Rights Award.
