People from Strabane will have the chance to learn how to make their money go further thanks to a partnership between local internet project EverybodyOnline and Strabane Library.
EverybodyOnline, an initiative from UK charity Citizens Online and jointly funded by BT and the Delivery and Innovation Division within the Department of Finance and Personnel, helps communities overcome barriers to modern technology so they can take advantage of its benefits.
Encouraging people to come along to the free taster sessions, Karen Wilson, EverybodyOnline Project Officer for the North West, said:
“Digital technology and the internet is becoming an essential part of everyday life. Children use mobile phones, computers and the internet on a daily basis to learn, communicate and socialise with friends and family. The older generation however is being left behind and are missing out on the benefits of being online.
“The credit crunch is one of our main topics of conversation at the moment. Going online can help save time, money and make informed decisions, helping relieve some of the pressures people face.
“We’re really looking forward to coming to Strabane to show people how to make the most of their money with a little help from the internet.”
Launched in January 2007, EverybodyOnline has directly introduced over 5,000 people to digital technologies, such as the internet, and the benefits it brings.
EverybodyOnline NI is a Northern Ireland wide programme with five Project Officers working at grass roots with older people; people with a disability; and people living in Fermanagh South Tyrone and Co Londonderry.
EverybodyOnline staff and volunteers will be on hand in the library from 10.30am to 12pm on Tuesday 7 October 2008. Places are limited and booking is advised.
