For leaders in the voluntary and community sector, there is a growing agenda of modernisation and regulation of voluntary and community organisations. This will include the implications of a new Charity Commission, SORP 2005 accounting, a changed landscape in local and regional government, decreasing funding and a growing emphasis on service delivery. Effective Governance is at the heart of meeting these challenges.

This event is for chief officers and the Chairpersons of their organisations. It reflects the importance of the relationship between chief officers and chairpersons in delivering good governance. The event can also be reflected in SORP 2005 reports as trustee training.

The event will include:

  • New leading edge thinking on models of governance.
  • Opportunity for Chairpersons, Chief Executives and Directors to reflect on their leadership role in delivering better governance.
  • Strategic update on the development of a Charity Commission for Northern Ireland.

Speakers:

  • Julia Unwin CBE – Former Charity Commissioner for England and Wales, researcher and author on Governance and Director Designate of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Housing Trust.
  • Tom Frawley – Assembly Ombudsman for NI and Chairperson of the Panel of Experts that was appointed to support the Review of Public Administration.
  • Senior spokesperson from the Department for Social Development
  • Alan Shannon – Permanent Secretary of the Department for Social Development.
