INCORE, as part of its Diversity In Action project is organising its third ’Training for Trainers’ residential. Northern Ireland, as in other parts of the UK, has been experiencing increased immigration of people from Eastern Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and elsewhere. Most native born people have welcomed the new arrivals. However, others have responded with bias, harassment and violence. Immigrants are not the only group to experience bias, harassment and hate crimes. Members of the Traveller, Jewish, gay and lesbian community have also been targeted with hate.
In order to help these groups build capacity and develop the skills required to deal with bias and harassment, INCORE in collaboration with Steve Wessler from the Center for the Prevention of Hate Violence (CPHV), is hosting its third 2 and a half day residential to prepare two-person teams to conduct hate crime prevention workshops in their own communities.
