This event will help raise awareness of human rights issues both locally and internationally. The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Tom Ekin will act as host with Baroness May Blood chairing the event. A number of other speakers have been invited including Nigel Williams, Childrens Commissioner; Jamal Iweida, Belfast Islamic Centre; Geraldine Finucane and Joan Harbinson Chief Commissioner from the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland.
Professor Brice Dickson, Chief Commissioner, who will also present an overview of human rights issues in Northern Ireland, said: “We hope this conference will spotlight a number of important human rights concerns currently facing us in Northern Ireland. Now, more than ever, we need to redouble our efforts to promote and protect human rights. On the 10th of December we hope to join with hundreds of other organisations working on human rights to advance the foundations of freedom, justice and peace across the world.”
