City Bridges in partnership with Irish congress of Trade Unions and Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union has organised this half day seminar on Human Rights and the Workplace on Thursday 28 October 2004 in the Carrickdale Hotel, Dundalk from 10.00am to 1.15pm.
The keynote speakers are Keith Ewing, Professor of Public Law at King’s College, London and Ivana Bacik, Reid Professor of Criminal Law, Criminology and Penology at Trinity College Dublin.
The Human Rights Acts in both jurisdictions have implications for a number of important areas of employment law and provide opportunities to extend new rights into the workplace. This seminar aims to give a brief introduction to the legislation and to raise issues for further consideration.
Professor Bacik will give a general introduction to the context for human rights enforcement, explaining the legislative and constitutional framework in the Republic of Ireland.
Professor Ewing will address the importance of fully implementing international trade union rights into national legislation, such as via the Human Rights Act and how a Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland is important in this respect.
There will an opportunity for questions and discussion at the end of each presentation. Attendance at the seminar is free, tea and coffee will be served on arrival and lunch will be provided.
