The Workshops cater for a range of genealogical abilities and levels of experience. Whether you are taking the first steps in tracing your Irish or Ulster Scots ancestry or are looking for specific information on a named antecedent, the Ulster Historical Foundation can help you uncover more about your roots.
Delegates have a choice of attending either a three or a five day workshop.
The five day workshop includes a full day trip, usually on Wednesday. The destination varies by date. Please check the itinerary for further details.
While concentrating on the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), delegates will have the opportunity to visit other repositories such as the Linen Hall Library, Belfast Central Library and Newspaper Archive, the Ulster Historical Foundation’s Family History Research Centre and the Presbyterian Historical Society.
Delegates will be assisted by our Research Director and former Director of PRONI, Dr Brian Trainor, our Research Officer, Dr William Roulston and by the Foundation's team of experienced researchers who will be on hand to offer advice and guidance at all venues. Each delegate will receive a personalised preliminary assessment, prepared by our Research Director, which will outline the major sources and repositories which you should use during your stay. This will be prepared in advance and will be awaiting you on arrival. Through an extensive programme of lectures and workshops, delegates will receive step-by-step instructions on using the full range of documentary sources available to the family historian.
The programme is also designed to give delegates an understanding of the historical experience and lifestyles of their forebears.
The dates arranged to date are: August 9 - 13, August 16 - 18, September 13 - 17 and September 20 - 22.
Although accommodation has been arranged for conference delegates, there are non-residential rates available. Delegates are also welcome to make their own arrangements. www.ancestryireland.com
