This event seeks to provide an opportunity to meet with others interested in this field of work to explore what is "good, bad and mythical" about fathers and how this impacts upon service provision and to identify future foci for Dads Express.
Dads Express arose from the ‘It Can Be Done' Conference held in May 2002 (see http://www.mensproject.org/issues). Feedback from this event indicated that there was a desire to have further opportunities for those interested in work with fathers to meet and share experience. A planning group was formed to bring this ideal forward and they established "Dads Express".
This vision of Dads Express is of a society in which all men who parent play a full role in family life and are encouraged, enabled, supported and resourced to do so. The group's mission is to establish and maintain an informal community of interest that is committed to ensuring that men who parent can become "good enough fathers" rather than "perfect fathers".
Who Should Come? This day will be of interest to anyone who wishes to develop work with and support for fathers. It will be of particular relevance to people working in family centres, social work, youth work, education, parenting projects, men's groups and the health professions - as well as individual fathers who wish to explore the importance of their role to family life.
