Intercultural Week in Ireland, North and South will take place during 19-25 March 2006.

The week is built around and includes the annual United Nations designated International Day Against Racial Discrimination on 21 March. This date has been chosen to mark the anniversary of the Sharpeville Massacre in South Africa in 1960. Intercultural Week and International Day against Racism provide an important opportunity for statutory, non-government, media, youth, local development and community bodies to organise events that focus on celebrating diversity in Northern Ireland and Ireland.

The overall theme of Intercultural Week in 2006 is ‘Participation’ and is about fostering a sense of belonging for people from minority ethnic backgrounds in public, political, economic and cultural life.

Intercultural Week is a North/South initiative coordinated by the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (ECNI) and the National Consultative Committee on Racism and Interculturalism (NCCRI) in Ireland.
