As the leading dance company in Northern Ireland, Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company is yet again breaking new ground in its attempts to involve more people in dance and movement.
The Derry-based company has come up with a unique and exciting event happening on 22 November - Dance Picnic.
Saturday afternoon in the Echo Echo Dance Studio will be an opportunity for all ages to come together, meet, eat some lunch and dance.
The first Dance Picnic took place in October and turned out to be a fantastic experience with people of all ages and backgrounds joining together to dance and move.
Dance Picnic was the brainchild of Co-Artistic Director, Steve Batts who said: “Over the past year, we realised that the company has danced with such a wide range of ages and abilities.
“The youngest was probably in the parent and toddler group in the summer while the oldest participant was 102 years old! I thought it would be wonderful if all of these people could meet and share an afternoon of dance together.”
This event is a chance to participate in some dancing and movement games within an open space where people can join in when they wish. You can come alone or bring a friend or family member – everyone is welcome.
With many workshops often aimed at certain sections of society, whether it is children, adult, elderly or disability, Echo Echo would like to remove the barriers between these groups and have everyone participate together in an informal and enjoyable environment.
The Dance Picnic is from 1.30pm to 4.30pm in the Echo Echo Dance Studio at the Waterside Theatre and costs £3 with group and family discounts available. Participants are encouraged to bring along some food to share with others, be it sandwiches, salads or cakes.
Dance Picnic is supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Derry City Council.
