In this paper social marketing was highlighted as contributing towards this thinking when using a consumer centred approach. Social marketing is a useful tool which can be adapted for those who work directly or indirectly on health issues such as diet, food, smoking, alcohol and exercise as well as environmental issues such as recycling, waste management and travel.
Social marketing is not only about crafting individually focused messages to promote behavioural change. It also puts the consumer and the stakeholder at the centre of the process. Instead of assuming we know what the target audience wants, it starts by listening to and asking what motivates and drives them. This information can be taken forward to develop initiatives which will promote the behaviours of individuals and policymakers/organisations to make improvements to their policies, services and practices.
There are 30 free places for those in the Community and Voluntary sector. These will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
