An overview of Universal Credit, a new benefit that would replace six of the main means-tested working age benefits and tax credits under the Welfare Reform Act.
The Welfare Reform Act was passed in England and Wales in March 2012. While it has not yet become law in Northern Ireland, when it does it will introduce significant reforms to the Social Security Benefit System.
This one day course is for those who provide advice as part of their role. Trainees will:
- Identify the eligibility conditions for Universal Credit
- List the component parts of a Universal Credit calculation
- Complete a Universal Credit calculation
- Explore the application process for new and migrating clients
- Explore the impact on existing benefit claimants
- Explore conditionality and sanctions, including the claimant commitment
