By the end of the course learners will:
• understand the legislative framework for the use of medication in social care settings
• understand the roles and responsibilities in the use of medication is social care settings
• understand the common types of medication and their use
• understand the techniques for administering medication
• understand the process for receiving, storing and disposing of medication supplies safely
• understand how to promote the rights of the individual and support use of medication
• understand how to record and report on the use of medication

It will examine the procedures that need to be put in place for effective recruitment and selection of staff and volunteers including requirements under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order, the current and former definitions of regulated activity and how to exercise careful judgement when assessing information on an Access NI Disclosure Certificate. It will also look at the procedures required for the effective management of staff and volunteers including induction and training, breach of code of behaviour and referral to the Disclosure and Barring Service.- - -
