Aim:

Safe MedicationThis course is specifically aimed at support staff who support service users on how to handle medication safely.

It will support in understanding their role in the safe handling of medication.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • understand principles of care as relevant to the safe handling of medication
  • understand the legal framework in relation to medications
  • understand their role in supporting self-medication, assisted medication and safe handling of medicines
  • understand the 7 key pointers to safe medication handling
  • recognise the importance of teamwork in ensuring that medications are handled well
  • recognise the need for and role of information sharing in this area
  • recognise the need to identify issues and problems appropriately.
