These 1 day workshops provide a basic overview and introduction to each benefit(foundation level),emphasising the impact of planned welfare reforms. At advanced level we look more closely at proposed reforms and their potential impact on clients.

These workshops will enable participants to answer general queries, recognise when a client or service user may not be claiming what they are entitled to and when they may need a referral to specialist support.

They are designed for community workers, support workers, social workers or health visitors, staff of organisations seeking to provide advice; anyone working with individuals or groups who could potentially claim benefits.

Foundation learners will understand basic entitlement and potential changes to:  

  • Carer’s Allowance
  • Income Support/IB JSA
  • Pension Credit
  • Community Care Grants
  • Employment Support Allowance
  • Housing Benefit
  • Tax Credits
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Attendance Allowance

 and an introduction to Universal Credit

 Advanced learners will understand the likely welfare reform changes that will affect their clients. Looking closely at the Welfare Reform Bill: 

Part 1 – Universal credit

Part 2 – Working-age benefits

Part 3 – Other benefit changes

Part 4 – Personal independence payment

Part 5 – Social security: General

Part 6 – Miscellaneous

Part 7 – Final

 and examining the schedule for change and potential impact on clients.
