The course builds upon knowledge gained in the Substance Use Awareness/Effects of Drugs and Alcohol course. It looks at how to provide brief interventions with substance users. It is mapped to the Open College Network (OCN) level 3 unit 'Brief Interventions' within the 'Tackling Substance Misuse' qualification. There is a specific focus on the needs of homeless substance users. You will receive training in the following areas:

Supporting individuals when they have used substances
Identifying individuals who may benefit from brief interventions using a range of screening tools
Understanding and knowing how to deliver a range of harm reduction advice
Motivational interviewing, the stages of changing behaviour and goal setting
Supporting consenting individuals to reduce, or abstain from, substance use

Free to those working within Addiction Services and Homelessness Services in the Eastern Area.
