Course Outline
Mediation Theory & Practice is accredited by the Open College Network Northern Ireland. This course is accredited as a Level 3 course earning 9 credit points. This equates to an NVQ Level 3, an Advanced Diploma or an A Level.
The course introduces a basic mediation process for use in a two party dispute or in constructive relationship building.
Learning Outcomes
The course introduces a basic mediation process for use in a two party dispute or in constructive relationship building. Trainees will:
- Understanding the anatomy of conflict
- Understanding the principles and practice of mediation
- Understanding how, when, why and where to use mediation
- Knowledge, understanding and practice of the 5 stage mediation model
- Practice of co-mediation
- Understanding of mediation referral and administration systems necessary to offer a mediation service
Dates
The course will be delivered weekly at our offices in South Belfast on Tuesdays: February 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th. Training days run from 9:30am – 4:30pm.

Volunteer NowTraining/AdviceThis course is aimed at individuals who recruit, manage or supervise staff and volunteers working with children and/or adults. It will examine the procedures that need to be put in place for effective recruitment and selection of staff and volunteers including requirements under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order, the current and former definitions of regulated activity and how to exercise careful judgement when assessing information on an Access NI Disclosure Certificate. It will also look at the procedures required for the effective management of staff and volunteers including induction and training, breach of code of behaviour and referral to the Disclosure and Barring Service.- - -
