Lost for Words is a free training programme aimed at helping support people who do not use speech as their primary means of communication.

Helping you to communicate with people who do not talk:

v Do you work, live with or support someone who does not talk?

v Are you interested in learning more about the variety of ways in which we can support people with a learning disability who do not use speech as their main methods of communication?

v Are you someone with a learning disability who is interested in learning about supporting other people who do not talk?

v Are you someone with a learning disability who is moving into the community?

Then the Lost for Words Free Training is for you!

Lost for Words is a training programme aimed at helping support people who do not use speech as their primary means of communication.  Its aim is to help ensure that people who are Lost for Words are able to get their views heard, understood and acted upon.

By the end of the course the participants will:

·      Be familiar with the range of ways in which people communicate without speech

·      Have an introduction to Active Support and Intensive Interaction

·      Be familiar with objects of reference and sensory referencing

·      Learn the first stages of PECS

·      Have an understanding of augmentative and alternative communication

·      Learn basic Makaton Signs

·      Be more confident in communicating with people who do not use verbal communication
