If you have or have had a cancer diagnosis the HOPE programme can help. It provides an opportunity to meet others who have had a cancer diagnosis and explore together proactive ways of taking control of your health and wellbeing.

HOPE Take Control

(Helping Overcome Problems Effectively)

When living with or recovering from cancer it can be easy to forget how capable you really are.

HOPE is a self management programme, developed by Coventry University and Macmillan Cancer Support. The course is designed to help people become more knowledgeable, skilled and confident in managing the physical and emotional consequences of living with and being affected by cancer.

This free course is led by people who are also living with cancer and/or health professionals and is for individuals who have had or have a cancer diagnosis or are recovery from treatment.

The type of topics covered in HOPE include:

  • What is self management and how to develop positive emotions?

  • Stress, stress management and relaxation techniques including Mindfulness.

  • Managing fatigue and understanding the boom and bust cycle.

  • Sleeping better.

  • Communicating to improve relationships with family and health professionals.

  • Fear of recurrence - living with uncertainty and facing the future.

  • Starting, maintaining or increasing physical activity.

  • Developing a healthy lifestyle through eating healthy.

    The one day course is on Friday 18 November 2016 from 10am – 3.30 pm in Macmillan Information and Support Centre, Belfast City Hospital, 77-81 Lisburn Road, Belfast, BT9 7AB
