This two day workshop aims to educate, empower and increase the confidence of the key worker who will then be able to begin to help the family carer explore emergency and future plans
The course is open to: Managers, social workers, nurses, day-care staff, and residential staff working with people with a learning disability
Aim
This two day workshop aims to educate, empower and increase the confidence of the key worker who will then be able to begin to help the family carer explore emergency and future plans
The workshop is split into two sessions:
What is a future plan: This session discusses what a future plan is and why do family carers avoid the topic
Support Networks: This session explores the family carers own support networks
Housing: This session will explore the housing and support options
Financial Security: This session will explore wills, discretionary trusts, leaving a house to the person with disabilities
Direct Payments: This session explains how family carers can apply for and use direct payments
Action: The aim of this session is to consolidate the knowledge, skills and re-sources learnt from the previous five sessions.
Every participant will get a training manual that includes:
- Resources specific to each trust (i.e. housing providers, care provides, solicitors, etc.
- Exercises they can use with the family carers and the person with a learning disability to help them develop their future plan.
- Useful websites and leaflets that can help family carers
LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED AT ALL WORKSHOPS
