CSA – Raising Awareness and Understanding

Nexus - Breaking the Cycle of Sexual Abuse and Abusive Relationships

Nexus

Cost: £50 or £35 (Students/Volunteers)

A one day workshop aimed at a wide range of professionals and volunteers who may come into contact with survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) and/or sexual violence through their work or volunteering activities.

This one day workshop is suitable for anyone who may come into contact with survivors of child sexual abuse (CSA) or sexual violence through their work or voluntary activities. This could include:

  • teachers
  • nurses and other healthcare professionals
  • social workers
  • police and criminal justice system workers
  • therapists
  • managers
  • counsellors
  • students
  • youth, community and voluntary sector and church group workers
  • foster parents and carers
  • many others

This workshop has been created using information and evidence gathered over more than 30 years’ of working directly with survivors of CSA and rape; it offers participants valuable insights into the experiences of a person who has been abused, and a better understanding of how abuse happens and who abusers are. It will help participants know where to begin when supporting people suffering from the impact of CSA and or sexual violence.

AIMS

This training will evidence the long-term impact these traumatic events have on survivors. It will help participants understand the barriers that exist to disclosure of these crimes and how they can support disclosure sensitively in their professional or voluntary roles.

The workshop will provide a safe space to discuss and explore reactions to, and fears about, a very challenging subject, and dispel some of the myths that surround it.

By the end of the workshop participants will feel better equipped to support victims in their work, help signpost them to support agencies, and manage their own self-care.

Coffee and tea are included. Lunch is not provided, but a 1 hour break is scheduled for participants and there are kitchen facilities available to participants and shops and cafes nearby.

CPD certificates will be provided to all participants.

Nexus can deliver this workshop directly to your organisation or group in a location of your choosing.
