WORKING with people presents staff with an assortment of challenges, not least how to manage certain kinds of behaviour. This experiential and highly participatory course is suitable for practitioners who wish to develop professional and personal skills and resources, when dealing with challenging and/or conflict situations.  This course has been designed with a view to encourage participants to find ways to minimise the occurrence of challenging behaviour and where this isn’t possible, to handle difficult situations more positively.  It is aimed at staff who have an on-going relationship with their clients, in a Supported and Social Care Setting.

By the end of this course you will have:

identified and explored the factors that can affect the way people behave, with a view to taking steps to minimise the occurrence of challenging behaviour

examined your own reactions, feelings and responses to challenging behaviours and aggression in particular

considered the strengths and weaknesses of your present approach

discussed a variety of strategies that might be helpful to implement when working with challenging behaviour (both on a one-off and an on-going basis)

identified your own support needs in working with challenging behaviour
