Celebrity chefs encourage Northern Ireland to Be a Star, Bake a Cake

Rick Stein, Tom Kitchin and Deliciously Ella are amongst the celebrity chefs to come together to encourage people living in Northern Ireland to bake their favourite cake for Bowel Cancer UK’s fundraising campaign Be a Star, Bake a Cake.

This year Bowel Cancer UK, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, is hoping more people than ever in Northern Ireland will hold a bake sale during Bowel Cancer Awareness Month in April and raise as much money as possible to help fund vital research and lifesaving work to stop bowel cancer in Northern Ireland.

Bowel cancer is the second most common cancer in Northern Ireland and the second biggest cancer killer. Every year around 1,100 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer in Northern Ireland and around 400 people die from the disease. However bowel cancer is treatable and curable especially if diagnosed early.
Brian Turner, Eric Lanlard, Tom Aikens, the Hairy Bikers, Gennaro Contaldo, Deliciously Ella, Mark Greenaway, Tom Kitchin and Rick Stein have all whipped up their favourite recipes for the campaign.

Niamh McDaid, Senior Health Promotion & Training Officer in Northern Ireland for Bowel Cancer UK says: “Whether you’re a whiz in the kitchen or if baking sends you into a tiz, our celebrity chef supporters have a recipe for you. Test your soufflé skills with a delicious Chocolate Orange Soufflé by the Hairy Bikers, make your chocolate brownies less devilish with Deliciously Ella’s sweet potato brownies or if you’re after indulgence, Tom Aikens chocolate cake will satisfy your sweet tooth. Then hold a cake stall, coffee morning or afternoon tea and invite your friends, family and colleagues to make a donation and sample the delicious treats”.

TV chef, Brian Turner CBE, says: “Cook up a storm this April for Bowel Cancer Awareness Month! Treat your friends, family and work colleagues to your favourite homemade cake and raise awareness of bowel cancer. Go for it!”
