Botanic Gardens in Belfast will be going global this summer when the Belfast Mela comes to town! On Sunday 27th August the park will be transformed into an exotic magic garden filled with the scintillating sights, sounds and scents of worldwide cultures.
The Belfast Mela Festival is the city's favourite annual global get-together bringing an eclectic feast of arts, music dance, food and fun to Botanic Gardens. The high energy, vivid and vibrant day out for all the family celebrates Northern Ireland's incresing cultural diversity with a range of music, dance and food. The Festival transforms the park into an exotic magic garden filled with the sights and sounds and aromas of nations right around the world. Attractions wil include a lively multi-cultural parade through the gardens creating a heady, good humoured atmosphere of a unique event which invites the world into the heart of Belfast. This year the family day out will include everything from performances from international acts on the main stage, a World of Music and Dance Showcase to a Little Bollywood experience especially created for babies, toddlers and young children plus a Fantasy Forest designed to cast its magical spell over all ages. Worldwide cuisine will tickle the family taste buds, while a Bazaar Marquee will provide retail therapy with a global dimension.
This year's hosts will be Carolyn Stewart from U105 and Marc Mallet from UTV. They'll be keeping the party going, introducing some of the big names of world music and dance flown in for the occasion as well as ethnic community groups from across Northern Ireland, all ready to share their culture with their neighbours.
