Insriring and uplifting words will be provided by guest readers including Damian Gorman MBE (Poet & Playwright), Martina Devlin (Author & journalist) and Frances Dowds (Health in Mind Project Manager).
This event is free and open to all and will give people in Omagh a wonderful opportunity to sit back and relax and listen to speakers who will read aloud from poetry and prose they have found personally inspiring or uplifting.
Readers down the ages have testified to literature’s capacity to make us feel better – better in ourselves and better about ourselves – by immersing us in the lives of others, or articulating eternal truths, or by speaking of feelings so deep and complex that they’re almost impossible to put into words. (Blake Morrison, A Little Aloud)
Books are inclusive; they invite us in and help us belong; being read to by others is a joy in itself. Literature touches something deep in us…what moves us in literature isn’t just seeing the words on the page, but hearing them resonate, in the air.
Information stalls will be provided on the day by Health in Mind partners Libraries NI, Action Mental Health, Aware Defeat Depression, Cause and MindWise and will include books that promote the understanding of good mental health and information on self-help, support and wellbeing.
