What's new?

Why the change?
Originally launched in 2005, CommunityNI was created to provide an online home for voluntary and community organisations to advertise jobs and events and publish news. The site has around 1,300 visitors a day, with hundreds of people regularly contributing articles on behalf of their organisations.

The team at NICVA have been adding new features and sections regularly but the options to develop the site in the way we wanted were limited.  We've launched this new version with the goal of providing everything the old site did, but adding a new layer of social networking capability and improved scope for ongoing development.  We'll be adding new features and tools regularly but in the meantime here are some of the changes.

Putting you in control
Not only will you be able to add your news, events and jobs (visit 'Careers') to the site as before, but you will also be able to edit or remove any of the items you've added, even when the content is live. Also, there will be no delay in getting your information on the site. As soon as you submit it, it will appear.

Connecting with your peers
In addition to these improvements, CommunityNI will now have a social networking functionality, allowing you to search for organisations, create and join groups, and more. You will also be able to search for individuals who have registered on the site, allowing for fantastic online networking capabilities.

Debate and discuss
Visit the 'Opinion' section, where you can have your say on the hot topics of the moment or join a debate someone has already started.

On the move
Even if you are on the move you can access CommunityNI, as it is fully compatible with mobile phones with internet access. If you already have a Facebook account or Twitter account, then you can set your profile page to display your latest updates there.

Notifications
You can subscribe to receive notifications if new content has been added to the site, eg new volunteering opportunities or jobs.
