Fifteen European voluntary sector umbrella organisations have come together for the first time ever to discuss a range of issues affecting voluntary organisations across the European Union.

Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness was in NICVA on 1 July 2009 to meet a cross section of voluntary and community sector leaders for discussion on the recession and its likely impact on the sector and its work.

The Big Lottery Fund (BIG) is to provide a multi-million pound package of funding to communities to help them cope with the effects of the recession following its Big thinking Consultation, it has been announced.

NICVA’s sister organisation in England has held a second Recession Summit jointly Chaired by Stuart Etherington and Angela Smith MP the Office of the Third Sector Minister. Angela Smith is a former Minister in Northern Ireland.

Almost three quarters of charitable foundations are predicting steady or rising income levels over the longer term and two-thirds are planning to maintain or increase their level of grant-making even in these uncertain times.
