NICVA has the latest update on the implementation timetable for various provisions of the Charities Act, following a recent meeting with the Secretariat of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland.

The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland is required to issue guidance on how it will apply the ‘public benefit’ test and has published a consultation document entitled Meeting the Charity Test – Demonstrating Public Benefit.

Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie today announced the appointment of a new Commissioner to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland (CCNI). Ms Rosemary Connolly was appointed to the position of ‘legally qualified’ Charity Commissioner.

The newly-appointed Charity Commission for Northern Ireland held its first Board Meeting on 15 June in Belfast. The Commission agreed its programme of work for the remainder of 2009 and beyond as it begins to discharge its statutory responsibilities.
