Lord Mayor of Belfast, Naomi Long, has launched the Giving Tree's 10th Anniversary at Marks and Spencer.

The Giving Tree is an initiative devised by BCM (Belfast Central Mission) and St Vincent de Paul.  The Giving Tree is covered in gift tags; each tag has the details of a child which is in need of a gift this Christmas.

People simply come and pick a tag off the tree and purchase a gift for a child. All the gifts are then collected and divided equally between BCM and St Vincent de Paul. The toys are distributed to local children.

Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Naomi Long, expressed her support for the Christmas appeal.

"At this time of year, in particular, it is important to think of those less fortunate than ourselves and to do what we can to ensure that families enjoy a happy festive season," she said.

Rev Richard Johnston, Superintendent of BCM was delighted at receiving the support of the Lord Mayor on this worthy cause. He said:

'We are so grateful to the support which the Lord Mayor and the public in general have shown to our Giving Tree.  So many families will benefit from the toys donated.'

Please visit our Giving Tree on the second floor of Marks & Spencer and donate a gift.
