Oxjam BannerOxjam is a unique music experience that aims to stage as many music events as possible throughout the month of October to raise money for Oxfam Ireland. We're asking musicians, promoters, street buskers, music teachers - in fact everyone throughout Ireland - to put on all kinds of music events during October to raise vital money for Oxfam.

There's no limit to how big or small the events are - whether you're donating your cloakroom money, a portion of your entry fee or organising a gig or club night, it'll add up to one huge, Ireland-wide Oxjam festival - raising vital money to fight poverty and injustice.

Some ideas you could try

Host an Oxjam night

  • A 'dead pop stars' Halloween ball or fancy dress party
  • A world tour in one night - we are one world: play world music/songs from as many countries as you can
  • An 'open mic' night
  • Get musicians to play the most random selection of instruments you can find
  • A hip-hop face off
  • An Oxfam party - use CDs etc from the Oxfam shops and wear the clothes - with the price tags still on, of course!
  • Charge admission and have collections, raffles etc to boost your takings

Oxjam CollageOxjam at work

  • Dressing as pop stars - or having an 'Elvis day' - collect money or get sponsored
  • Having a collection at a lunch-time jam - play in the canteen
  • A music-themed buffet - charge for entry eg Strawberry fields Forever tart; Frank Zappa's bacon fat sandwiches; Champagne Suernova truffles; Smashing Pumpkins pie etc
  • A 'first record I ever bought' ID competition. Your colleagues bring in their first records, you keep a secret list of who owns one, and then you charge an entry fee for people to enter and match up names and discs

Other ideas

  • A music pub quiz in your local - donate entry charges to Oxjam
  • Busking for Oxjam - show your talent on the streets! Give proceeds to Oxjam
  • The Ox-factor - hold an X-factor night at home with your friend as contestants - and you as judge. Donate entry fees
  • A 'play and shame' party - play the worst records that guests bring along 'fine' the worst offenders and hold a collection
  • Getting sponsored and play/sing/whatever
