Parents Advice Centre (PAC) has increased its support channels for parents with the launch of a new website www.parentsadvicecentre.org
The site offers a new way for parents and family members to seek information, support and guidance in dealing with family issues.
Pip Jaffa, chief executive of Parents Advice Centre explains the benefit of increasing awareness across a range of channels:
"Being a parent is never easy. It can be difficult and often thankless, but it’s the most important job there is and there’s very little training for it.
"Parents Advice Centre has been operating a Freephone, confidential Helpline 0808 8010 722 for the last 28 years. The demand for the service has increased significantly year upon year. Callers often state that they became aware of the Helpline through friends, family or colleagues. This word of mouth has been instrumental in ensuring that we actively help parents who have concerns about a range of family matters."
"However, it is clear that there are individuals who may not be aware of the service, but who could benefit from the support and guidance which it provides. As so many people now access the internet regularly, we decided that a dedicated website would be extremely useful and will enable parents across Northern Ireland to find out more about what we do.
"To increase awareness of the Helpline we have also undertaken an extensive marketing campaign which will see television, radio, bus and phone kiosk advertising featuring details of the Parents Advice Centre Helpline and website"
Parents Advice Centre has over 80 trained volunteers in Ballymena, Belfast, Derry and Dungannon. Any family member can call the Freephone number and all types of family problems are addressed from coping with crying babies right through to dealing with behavioural problems, bullying, drugs, the effect of separation, divorce or your child’s sexuality.
If you have a family problem which you would like to talk about you can call the Parents Advice Centre on 0808 8010 722 or log on to www.parentsadvicecentre.org
For individuals who may be keen to become more actively in Parents Advice Centre, the website also offers information on courses, projects and volunteering. Individuals interested in volunteering should contact:
