Translink and Shopmobility Improve Belfast Access

Translink and Shopmobility have launched a new partnership, offering wheelchairs, motorised scooters and electric wheelchairs for free daily hire from the Europa Buscentre and Great Victoria Street Rail Centre.

The facility will greatly improve accessibility for people with limited mobility arriving in Belfast from across Northern Ireland on Translink services, and will operate on an appointment basis requiring Membership of the Shopmobility service, which is free to Northern Ireland residents.

Shopmobility launchSpeaking at the launch event in the Europa Buscentre, Billy Gilpin, Translink Central Area Manager said,

We are delighted to be able to offer this new facility along with Shopmobility.This latest initiative is further evidence of our commitment to providing an accessible public transport service, following the introduction of new low floor buses, coaches and minibuses, and the arrival of the new C3K trains which all meet the latest accessibility requirements.

Also speaking at the launch of the new service, Frank Caddy, Shopmobility Chairman explained that the charity is celebrating its’ tenth anniversary of providing services to people with limited mobility across Northern Ireland.

We currently have over 6,000 members from across Northern Ireland who regularly use our services from seven branches. We are delighted to have been able to join forces with Translink to offer our services that will make the centre of Belfast even more accessible to our members.
