Training programme for lone parents in the skills needed to prepare and deliver training in adult learning environments.

The Certificate in Training Practice is a 30 week long programme. It begins in September and runs through to June. It is the equivalent of a level 3 qualification and is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. It is a professional training qualification. The aim of the programme is to give students the generic tools to prepare and deliver training in adult learning environments.

This course is only open to lone parents.

The course is free to all lone parents. All membership fees, course fees, tutoring costs and course text books are paid for by Gingerbread. Students are further supported by travel and childcare. Travel is reimbursed by receipts for public transport and 19p per mile for those using their own car.

Students are required to attend class one morning per week in Belfast. The training takes place on Thursdays from 9.30am to 1.30pm.

The application process is via an pre-course interview here in Belfast. Gingerbread will be recruiting for September 2006 this Easter.

Applicants need to have a reasonable level of numeracy and literacy as there is an academic element to the course. As assignments are based around the realities of an organisation, students need to either be employed or volunteer with an organisation.

What the Students say

“The CTP course has developed my knowledge and learning skills and has helped me to demonstrate my newfound skills and progress within my department. This course has built my confidence within training and has given me a variety of skills and knowledge in designing and delivering training. It has given me self-belief to go on and learn further. I have taken up an English course to help me.”

Student from a leading Bank

“ I am able to apply my newly acquired knowledge to various areas of my work and no longer find previously laborious tasks, such as preparation of Personal Development Plans/Job descriptions, a struggle.

The level of support from my course tutor has been invaluable as is the support and shared experiences from the other trainees. I have gained a new group of friends, an excellent level of understanding of training in the workplace, increased confidence and motivation. An extremely worthwhile course which can lead to a well recognised qualification and I would recommend it to anyone.”
