Draft Guidance for Public Authorities on Consulting with Children and Young PeopleThe Equality Commission is consulting on Guidance for Public Authorities on Consulting with Children and Young People.
Background
Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 requires public authorities, in carrying out their functions relating to Northern Ireland, to have due regard to the need to promote equality of opportunity, in respect of the nine categories, including as part of the age category, children and young people.
The Commission hopes that the Guidance will assist public authorities to fulfill their statutory duties in respect of consulting directly with children and young people.
The Guidance supplements and builds on the consultation guidelines in the Guide to the Statutory Duties, providing direction on how best to consult and how to promote participation and engagement.
