As part of Volunteers Week from 1 to 8 June, Community Transport are running a series of volunteering information sessions across Northern Ireland.

Community Transport offers many different volunteering opportunities

Would you like to volunteer within your community but don’t know how to go about it? Community Transport offices are holding an ‘open’ morning for all volunteers on Friday 8 June 2007 from 10am to 1pm.

Drop in to find out how you can support your community by volunteering with Community Transport. If you are unable to drop in please call 0845 650 1190 to discuss the volunteering options that best suit you.

Community Transport:

  • offers many different volunteering options right on your doorstep
  • plays a pivotal role within your local community
  • provides affordable, accessible transport for local people who find it difficult to get out and about
  • provides a transport solution best suited to meet each passenger's needs - this may include collecting kids to take them to an after schools club, providing transport to a senior citizens meeting or making it possible for physical disability group to go on an outing.

What is Community Transport?

Successful Community Transport depends on volunteers and is run by and for your local community. All Community Transport providers are not-for-profit charities. Volunteers and the support they provide ensures transport is available and ongoing. Community Transport needs you and your help.

Your local Community Transport organisation will provide you with full training and support to help you to make a difference within your community.

The type of volunteering posts available are:

  • Volunteer minibus drivers – great for anyone who loves to driveVolunteer car drivers (drive your own car & receive mileage reimbursement)
  • Volunteer passenger assistants to help people on and off vehicles and to provide company when on a journey
  • Volunteer office assistants and administrators – no experience necessary but some would help.
  • Volunteer fundraisers for flag days or to organise and run events
  • Volunteer marketing and promotions officers to spread information about how community transport can provide solutions and change the lives of people who find it difficult to get out and about.
  • Volunteer Management Committee member to give you a say how Community Transport is provided within your area.
