Dungannon Youthbank opens first round of funding

South Tyrone Empowerment Programme Small Logo

Youthbank is a grantmaking initiative run by young people for young people. Local Youth Banks provide small grants to fund young peoples’ good ideas to benefit their own communities.

Dungannon Youthbank is a group of young people living in Dungannon district, who are dedicated to giving grants to youth groups which will help bring their ideas to life.

How much can I get?

Since the group got together they have been working on the processes involved in grantmaking and have received training on all aspects of making funding decisions. They are now at the stage of opening their first round of grants releases. The grants up to £1000 will be open for any groups of 3 or more people aged between 15 - 25.

Who can apply?

Applications must be youth-led, clear and realistic, have a positive impact on young people and/or others. There are certain things which cannot be funded including religious or political activities, debt payments, individuals and activities or events that have already taken place.

Margaret Schiller, Community Development Manager at S.T.E.P. continues :

"Youthbank presents an excellent opportunity for the various youth-based groups in the Council area who are interested in delivering small projects and events but lack the financial resources to do so. It has been a wonderful learning experience for the Dungannon Youthbank team which consists of a number of young people living locally as they are now equipped with know-how in areas of publicity, decision-making, application processes, communication etc. We hope that many local groups will take advantage of this opportunity which is an entirely new type of project in the area and one which we hope will grow from strength to strength"
