How to apply?
Économusée Northern Europe is a unique and exciting opportunity for local crafts artisans in North Antrim and Donegal Gaeltacht to join a travel trail in cultural tourism.To be eligible a crafts business must be in operation for 3 years and producing high quality products in wood, metal, animal/plant fibres, agri-foods or stone/ceramics.

What is an Economuseum?
An Economuseum is a private business which uses traditional techniques to make traditional products for sale. The concept began 20 years ago in Quebec, Canada to promote cultural heritage which “earns its keep” (www.economusees.com).

Imeall Trá has become the UK and ROI partners to assist the development of local Économuseums to promote a travel trail link with our Northern neighbours in Norway, Iceland and The Faeroes.

  • Criteria for Craft Business
  • Must be in business for at least 3 years
  • Have skilled crafts people (minimum of 2 staff/maximum of 12 staff)
  • Produce high quality products
  • Have capital to carry out potential modifications to the premises
  • Have the ability and desire to innovate in production
  • Operate throughout the entire year and be open to the public at least 4 months of the year
  • Generate a turnover of more than €60,000 or £48,000
  • Show keen interest in welcoming visitors
  • Be located in an identified tourist route
  • Operate in buildings which have the space to set up an Économuseum
  • Operate on a site and in buildings of high quality
