Representatives from the park, one of only three organisations from Northern Ireland to be recognised, attended a prestigious ceremony at the House of Lords on Tuesday 20 February.

Gerry Quinn, Manager accepted the Commendation award and said “Recognition by BURA of the ongoing work at Creggan Country Park is a reminder to all involved of the worth and impact of the work we do on a wide range of fronts. That this work actually represents regeneration of communities is something we tend to take for granted. The BURA award is a quality assurance standard for regeneration so recognition from experts in the field is all the more welcome.”

The Awards for Community Inspired Regeneration 2006 are sponsored by Communities and Local Government and are a celebration of communities that have identified and tackled issues in their neighbourhoods and in doing so, have improved the quality of life of local people. This year nine outstanding projects have been selected for recognition.

Speaking on behalf of Communities and Local Government, the scheme’s sponsors, Liveability Minister Baroness Andrews said: “These awards go hand in hand with the work to which we are committed in government. Promoting community led action enhances the quality of neighbourhoods for local people. All the projects recognised by BURA are excellent examples of how creative and innovative communities can improve and make a real difference to places and communities. My hope is that the work doesn’t stop here, and these groups continue to take pride in where they live and inspire others to do so, so helping to create a sustainable future for all."
