NICCY’s URVoice consultation has now closed. The Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People, Patricia Lewsley will use the consultation responses to ensure the interests of children and young people are being promoted.

Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People, Patricia Lewsley, today said thank you to everyone who took part in her URVoice Consultation.

The consultation closed on Friday and final totals show that almost 2,000 children, young people, parents, carers and people working with children and young people took part.

Ms Lewsley said

"Online, in groups, via the post, in schools, in youth clubs - wherever you took part and whichever way you took part, thank you!

"This consultation is vital in helping me prioritise my work. I am delighted that so many individuals and groups took the time to be involved."

The Commissioner's consultation was based on research carried out last year with children, young people, their families and professionals working with children, as well as analysis of complaints received by NICCY.

"Every three years I have to consider a new corporate plan," said Ms Lewsley.

"Our research formed the areas we consulted on. The consultation responses will help me develop and amend our priorities to make sure we continue to promote and safeguard the rights and best interests of children and young people."

The results of the consultation, as well as NICCY's Corporate Plan for 2008-2011 will be published later in the year.

Extended closing date

The URVoice Consultation officially closed on 15th February, but owing to the number of responses and the number of organisations indicating they wanted to respond, it was extended until Friday, 29th February
