The MS Society, NI which has been vigorously campaigning for people with MS to receive Disease Modifying Treatments, expressed their frustration to the all party political group on MS over the cancellation of a planned meeting with current Health Minister, Shaun Woodward.
Kieran Harris, Director of the MS Society, NI said,
“Regrettably we are taking phone calls day and daily from people who are being denied a treatment which could radically improve their quality of life, simply because of under funding for this treatment.”
This was the major topic of conversation when the MS Society met with members of the cross party group on MS at Stormont.
All of the main political parties who make up the cross party group also expressed their frustration and disappointment and have pledged their continued support to the MS Society with our campaign.
Kieran Harris, Director of the MS Society, NI added,
“To have MS is bad enough, but then to be denied the only real treatment that can slow down the progress of the disease is even worse.”
The Society plans to continue with this campaign and also to present the Minister with a petition of over 8,000 signatures.
The Society also plans to continue to highlight the totally unacceptable situation that many people with MS are being placed in regarding these waiting lists.
