Lisburn City Council’s Mayor’s Awards for Volunteering are moving up a gear, and the Mayor Councillor James Tinsley wants citizens in the City to Vote, Vote, Vote!

Support your volunteering star and vote online at www.lisburncity.gov.uk for your favourite to win the People's Choice Award 2008.

Profiles of the four finalists and their Voluntary Organisation groups are on Lisburn City Council’s website – right on its homepage and waiting for you to vote for your favourite.

The awards this year created a new category of “The People’s Choice Award” and the finalists selected by the judging panel are:

Mrs Elsie Vance, Greater Lisburn Ageing Well (Individual- Adult)
Elsie volunteers with various over 50’s groups throughout the city and supports in the organisation of classes such as line dancing, keep fit and Tea Dances. Elsie would like to win to highlight the need for more volunteers to work with older people.

Mr Ciaran McQuillan, Sally Garden Community Centre (Individual – Young).
Ciaran volunteers with various groups operating within the Sally Gardens Community Centre, he provides a wide range of support for activities and services. Ciaran would like to win to get recognition for youth volunteering and to encourage more young people to get involved.

Lisburn Citizens Advice Bureau – (Group – Large)
Lisburn Citizens Advice Bureau currently has 15 volunteers who provide information and advice to the public in areas such as housing, consumer and relationship issues. The bureau would like to win the award to raise awareness of their work and to recognise the work of the all the volunteers involved.

Lisburn Voluntary Laundry Service – (Group – Small)
Lisburn Voluntary Laundry Service currently has 15 volunteers who run the community laundry service for people with illness or disability, providing support for families caring for relatives. They would like to win to give recognition to all the volunteers at the laundry service.

Deadline

Deadline for votes is Friday 11th April 2008.

So please make your vote count and log on to the Council’s website to give your favourite finalist the chance to win the first-ever People’s Choice Awards to be presented a the Mayor’s Volunteering Awards Gala Dinner on Thursday 24th April 2008.
