The Northern Ireland Centre for Trauma and Transformation [NICTT] in conjunction with the DHSSPSNI is offering the Accredited Certificate in Cognitive Therapy Methods (CCTM) to mental health and social care practitioners working in the Northern Ireland community and voluntary sectors.

With development support from Cooperation and Working Together [CAWT] and funding through the DHSSPSNI the Northern Ireland Centre for Trauma and Transformation [NICTT] is offering its professional Certificate in Cognitive Therapy Methods to counselling and mental health practitioners from the Northern Ireland community and voluntary sectors.

This Course is offered free of charge to suitably qualified applicants through funding provided by the DHSSPSNI as part of its modernisation of mental health services in Northern Ireland

Those who complete the training will be able to integrate and apply a range of cognitive therapy methods within their existing practice. The Certificate is a 120-hour qualification composed of five core Units of 20 – 30 hours each. To complete the Certificate the learner must successfully complete all five Units.

Please note that the Course will not qualify successful participants as cognitive therapists.

Accreditation

This 18 day customised course is accredited by Edexcel and leads to a BTEC Professional Award Level 4.
The accredited Certificate in Cognitive Therapy Methods is aimed at enhancing the skills of practitioners currently working in mental health and related services, and assisting in effectively identifying and addressing or referring onwards people with mental health problems.

Starting the course

The course will begin with a three day training block at 9.30 am on 8th, 9th and 10th October 2007 and thereafter on subsequent Mondays for fifteen weeks.

The venue for the course is still to be confirmed.

Requirements for applicants

Applicants must have

  • a professional qualification in the health and social care field or a recognised and accredited qualification in counselling, psychology or psychotherapy [specific details of requirements are provided with application notes]
  • and must be currently working in a statutory or voluntary setting with individuals with mental health problems
  • and have two years post qualifying experience of working with people who have mental health problems.
